A few days back I mentioned building trains using no window bricks after
people complained about the lack of availability of 'train' windows.

Well here is model that doesn't use any windows.  in fact, the most
specialized piece is a 1x2 plate with center stud on top and a 2x6 technic
plate. [1]  In fact the entire thing is built mostly of bricks and plates with
a few slopes.  And it is heavy!  The model is solid most of the way
through.

Here is a crude picture taken with my video capture.

Note, it's taller then your average passenger car by about 2 bricks.  But
superliner cars are taller then most too.

I was inspired to build it after watching the Amtrak Coast Starlight pass by
my work day after day.  Something about those windows...  They are black.
Superliner windows are tinted so heavily, they appear black from the outside.
Why not use black bricks to model them.  That's how I came up with idea.  Now
I'm building a prototypical Amtrak Coast Starlight train.  It will have two
engines, a baggage car and three or so superliner cars.

Does anyone know of a good source for Amtrak pictures on the web?

Hey Larry, how did I do for scale?

Hope this inspires others to come up with creative solutions.

available.

(...) With additional coaches built this solid, you should have one smooth train set, Ben. The additional weight seems to yield much smoother and slower accelerations...which I like. (...) "windowless" passenger coaches, for I had not noticed this (...) (25 years ago, 29-Nov-99, to lugnet.trains)
