Starting from scratch, I soon realised some of his choices. One of them is

to be necessary for managing the curves. The next one are the 5 grilles on
the front part which, for geometrical reasons needed to be reduced to 3.
I did adopt some of his other solutions (1x1-slopes on the roof, bars by
the stairs, and I might also decide to use 1x1-slopes at the edges of the
cabin, it looks a bit nicer although the original angle is not that steep).
Some of the black bars might be replaced by pneumatic hoses, Ill see about
that when I build it. The stairs in the middle might disappear if they prove
to be standing out too much). I will also most probably replace the
windscreen with the lower one used in his version.
I managed to make the engine 1 stud lower, though (and hopefully it will
still run :) ), but the front wheel needs to slide together with the
1x6-tiles on top, making it possibly look a bit awkward in the curves. If
that will be the case after I build it, I will replace them with 1x4-tiles.
Next, the real challenge - putting an uncoupling device into this miniature
(as this is the solution I definitely like most). This will NOT be easy,
since this engine is mostly very compact :/ But we know that nothing is
impossible, right? ;)

Overall I like this one much better than my version. I assume that the cab is
empty so at least you have somewhere to slot the motor but Im thinking youve
got quite a job ahead of you for automatic decoupling :)
Im curious if the snotted 1x2 bricks at the front and back are held in in the
model? Obviously they can be quite easily but I was wondering if you had some
neat trick going on or if it was just CAD laziness (something I freely admit to
myself on occassions).
I think the cab edge 1x1 slopes would work better studs forwards rather than
studs out like I have. I cant think why I didnt do that in the first place
(benefit of hindsight maybe).
For the smokestack did you try building it out of 1x1s and putting a 1x1 slope
on top? It may be a bit thick but if not could offer a slightly more realistic
take.

| (...) Now that you mention it, I'm curious about that myself :D It is not laziness, just forgot that "tiny little" detail. However, it was not a problem to fix. On both sides there is place for a horisontal 1x4-plate attached to a couple of (...) (18 years ago, 25-Mar-07, to lugnet.trains)
