Hi All,

This is my version of the lead engine of the Royal Orient: YG 3415. As a typical Indian steamer this train offered huge amounts of small details to add. Every time I thought I had all the important details I’d look again and discover another one was missing.

The prominent bands around the nearly six-wide boiler were a real challenge to get into the model. After much thinking and considering (and a big mistake that wasted most of yesterday) I came up with a solution combining octagons based around the 2x2 plate with octagonal clip and flex. I’ve included a segment cutaway in the BS folder to show how it’s done as it might prove useful to other train designs.

There are two points in the engine that might have to be modified to run the train: he roof overhang may have to lose one stud and the front wheels may have to be pivoted differently. I copied the piston design from Anthony Sava’s Polar Express.

If anyone has any suggestions please don’t hesitate to let me know. I may have to order myself some BBB wheels and make this one at some point.

Thanks for looking,

Tim

(...) And it looks as if you nailed many of the details. Fabulous. On this MOC, due to the various colors, the details stand out much more and are more apparent. (...) Excellent. Other than what I term as 'roof junk' I haven't yet been able to use (...) (18 years ago, 29-Jan-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
