Hello,
Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Bryan Kinkel. I'm 28 and
collected Lego's all through my childhood. My favorites during that period
were the early Space and Town series. But what really made me excited
were the Castle and Train pictures my parents brought home with
them when they went to Germany. They brought back several catalogs including
a 1980 Train catalog. I can't even begin to count the number of letters I
wrote to "Susan Williams" asking Lego to bring trains and castles to the
USA.  Is Susan Williams a real person? I was thrilled when Lego finally
started domestic production of castles and trains. I had the old 4.5v
battery sets, 7720, 7820, 7816 and some other cars. Tons of track too.

I stopped collecting sometime in 1988, around high school time. I recently
go married and purchased a rather large house. This large house prompted my
parents to haul my entire Lego collection from their house to mine. My wife
was midly amused.

I'm surprised at how anal a kid I was. I have boxes of Lego boxes with
instructions in mint condition. I also have a shoebox full of domestic and
overseas catalogs. My copy of the 1980 Train catalog is in great condition,
considering it is close to 20 years old. I also have the old denim bag
filled with standard bricks.

There have always been a longing to drag them all out. I frequently go down
to the basement to get tools and see the red logo sticking out of boxes.

Well, the final straw was the $99 4559 Cargo Railway at Toy's R Us this
week. That is now my big Christmas present from my wife. Of course, she
won't let me open it until Christmas. I can't wait to make my first trip
into the world of electric Lego trains. There are probably about 200+
minifigs
waiting to see the light of day in the basement!

I don't know if my wallet will ever be the same. My wife knew about my toy
hobbies and she still chose to marry me....

I look forward to lurking around in this newsgroup and learning all I can
about trains. They are by far my favorite "theme" in the Lego world.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good collection of catalog scans?
Particularly trains? I found Matt's Train Depot link, Fibblesnork and Lugnet
as well. Anyother good train resources on the web?

(...) Hi, Bryan, While I'm not a very frequent poster to these hallowed LEGO newsgroups, I thought I should welcome you back to the "LEGOLAND" :-) (...) I, too, am 28, collected LEGO from childhood, and had a time of LEGO absence during college. (...) (26 years ago, 15-Dec-98, to lugnet.trains)

Thanks for all the great pointers to Train oriented sites. I just wish my wife would let me open my 4559 Cargo Railway before Christmas...-- Bryan (26 years ago, 16-Dec-98, to lugnet.trains)
