Dear German speakers,
I recently visited Koeln and saw some extrmely interesting EMUs there
operating as commuter trains for the service. Unfortunately my train finding
skills arent so good and are even worse when I dont know the correct words
in a language. I tracked down one tiny pic of this train
()
I am hoping someone can help me with a few requests:
1) What is the way you say EMU in German
|
EMU = Triebzug mit Elektromotor
EMUs = Triebzüge mit Elektromotor
(For DMU replace Elektro with Diesel)
Nahverkehrszüge or Regionalzüge (Also words like Nahverkehr, Regionalverkehr and
Regionalbahn can help you finding more in German on the internet)
|
2) What German websites are good for finding train pictures?
|
Besides the already mentioned site:
Drehscheibe : www.drehscheibe-online.de
Lok-Report: www.lok-report.de
Or google on words like:
Eisenbahn (railway)
Baureihe (class or make of trains)
Zug, Züge, Zuege (train, trains)
Triebzug, Triebzüge, Triebzuege (MU,MUs)
Lok, Lokomotive (locomotive)
Bilder (pictures, photographs)
(Note that ue is a different way of writing ü)
|
3) What make of train is this?
|
In the small picture I see two rows of windows, so its double stock.
The front does not look like the electric double stock EMU class 445.
Within the DMUs, I could not find any matching double stock DMUs.
So I think the small picture shows a double stock steering car.
From the small picture it is hard to tell which type it is.
More double stock coaches can be found here:
http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/de/car/double_deck/pix.html
Some German words to search for are:
Wendezug (returntrain, train with driving cab at rearside, I dont know a good
English word for this) Steuerwagen (steering car)
Doppelstock (double deck)
|
Any other help would of course be appreciated.
|
These trains are used for Regional Bahn (commuter trains/all station stops) and
Regional Expresse (longer distance regional trains)
Youre welcome
Niels
(Not German, but close enough to Germany to understand some of it :-) )
