It has been a while since I posted here (lurked a lot though). The
strangest things keep getting me back to visit the boards. One of these
things is Wikipedia.
I was editing some Wikipedia pages and for the fun of it I looked up LEGO.
I noticed that there are pages for Bionicle, Technic and Mindstorms but no
page for our favorite theme: trains.
So I created one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LEGOtrain
I noticed that there are more AFOLs active in Wikipedia (I think I recall
seeing a comment by Larry). So feel free to add relevant info.
I tried to enter as much facts as I could think of, but Im sure it is not
complete. I would also like to add a photo of a MOC (my personal vote for
this page would be Shaun Sullivans steam locomotive
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=67693
as it illustrates the fine line between model railroading and the LEGO
train hobby. However there are many other great MOCs that would fit very
well in Wikipedias article.
Comments and suggestions are welcome, wiki-edits too (keep the Wikiquette
in mind though).

Hi Frank,
Dont suppose you want to do the same for the
BrickWiki article? And please,
check out BrickWiki for any other additions
you might like to make.

I wasnt aware of Brickwiki.
Given the fact that Wikipedia already had a few LEGO related pages, I felt
that at least a theme page should also exist (personally I found that the
King Mathias article in wikipedia is a bit too detailed for wikipedia).
What is the general opinion on having generic info in Wikipedia next to
detailed info in Brickwiki?
|
I think generally thats the desired approach, yes.
Where BrickWiki is light (Wikipedia History of LEGO ) for example, BW has been crosslinking (or in rare
cases copying and attributing although thats not the desired approach) to the
relevant Wikipedia articles, but in general where BW has more detail, we should
be placing links to the BW articles in Wikipedia articles that are relevant.
So yes, please do hop on over to BW and help create content. Its shaping up
nicely already but theres still lots to do.
