Hello LUGNET members,

Last weekend COLTC put on our largest single display (25'x25') at our local GATS
in Columbus Ohio. And it turned out great! We received our first official 1st
place  win during the GATS in Columbus. Hopefully a start of something great to
come. Everyone loved to see our display at the GATS this year. From what I heard
this was the first time a Lego display was at the Columbus GATS show. All the
hard core GATS visitors wanted to make sure we were back next year in Columbus.
I talked to some who came back the 2nd day just to see the Lego display again.

I think the best part was meeting several other Lego collectors and talking with
them. They never knew people displayed there Lego train layouts like this. Or
that there was such a big community like LUGNET out there. Our fliers and
business card were going fast. Some of the kids were even happy to find out all
this information about the community and groups through out the world.

We had out kids table again (Special thanks to Lego and Jake for the event kit!)
and as all ways it was a big hit. We had Bob the builder looking over the kids
area during the show. The kids just loved getting pictures next to Bob. Some
kids even made add ons for Bob the Builder from the event kit. We did not have
many people staying long term at the kids table like we have in the past. Might
have been related to the only down-point of the show, we were given a smaller
space than originally planned and this cut down on the walk ways and the area
around the kids table.

We had many new MOC's showing for the first time, a castle display with a
medieval village, several new skyscrapers from the downtown Columbus Ohio area,
new city blocks and apartments, Weezer concert, School, McDonald's, and a 30"
cliff with a fort on it. Members also added to the water mill, and extended the
suspension bridge to 10 feet. We also went all out in filling all the areas in
between the models. Many new cars and people were added along with hundreds or
greenery through out the display. Most of the downtown area used some custom
road plates, and cross walks with lights.

We have several members links below to check out the pictures from the show
along with Troy's pictures that he posted on Saturday. Check back to this post
later because we have some video made from the trains point of view. Once we
find a home on the Internet for the files I will post to let you all know.

If you are from the central Ohio area and wish to join our group or would like
to be notified directly of upcoming shows that COLTC will be putting on, just
drop me an email and I will make sure it is given the attention it needs.

Enjoy

(...) link again. The videos are at the bottom of the page. (URL) were made by mounting a video camera on a train car and having the train push it around. Thanks and enjoy John (21 years ago, 13-Feb-04, to lugnet.trains.org)
