I rebuilt my Challenger (for about the 20th time) to use the drive wheels
designed by Ben Fleskes.
The GMLTC had our layout setup at the Jackson Street Roundhouse in St. Paul, so
I finally got a chance to try out the Challenger with the new wheels.
These things work nice! With my former design I was lucky to get it around
the layout twice before something fell off, with these wheels it would run a
dozen loops or more before I needed to do some repairs. And the stuff I needed
to repair was NOT the main drive wheels, it was the front pilot truck that I
built not nearly strong enough... The new main drive wheels worked with no
problems at all.
Ben, great job on these, and I know the production version will be even
better.
Pictures hopefully soon, but since you all know the GMLTC is the most
dis-organized train club in the world Im sure you wont be holding your breath
waiting for them...
And the best part? Even our resident purist (John Kelly) thinks they look
good!
JohnG, GMLTC

| (...) Hey, thanks for the update! Nothing beats field trials! What's your current blind/flanged configuration? Still going flange/blind/flange to get the 8 stud total spacing, or something different? (21 years ago, 8-Dec-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
