Sir,
I wish to take issue with the caption of two images in Russell Clarks
otherwise excellent presentation, Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.
On page 23 (of 27), a compound image is captioned Thomas by unknown
modelersic (UK). The model clearly shows an OF class 0-4-0 saddle tank
engine in the livery of the Caledonian railway, and not an 0-6-0 (side) tank
engine in the style of the Rev. W. Awdreys aforementioned original creation.
I am sure the modeller (whoever he may be) is clearly aware that Thomas has
six wheels, not four, and would be highly offended, possibly liable to fits of
mental dissociation and extreme acts of violence to hear his %$~!@*#
Caledonian 0-4-0 referred to as %$~!@*# Thomas by one more %$~!@*# parent at
a %$~!@*# $%*@#~! train show for %$~!s sake, dont they know %$~!@*#
anything?
Did Reynolds put you up to this? Ill have that $%*@#~!, I tell you. Just
you wait and see that I %$~!@*# dont.

lol I just finished reading my latest issue of Car & Driver magazine, and your
letter reminded me of the good humor found throughout the mag, but especially in
the letters to the editors section:-)
I agree with you that Thomas is a mixed blessing to railfans. I sympathize with
all of the proto-modelers of locos on which the Thomas characters are based.
But what are you gonna do?
As far as wheel configs go, it is pathetic that TLC hasnt offered by now some
sort of 3 axle motor config on the 9 volt trains. I know most people think that
all of the new train stuff that has come out in the past few years is great,
but I would trade it all in for an actual new train part, such as a gentler
curve track section, or a 3 axle motor, or a new truck design. Those are
examples of impressive releases, TLC, not new locos or train cars based on 13+
year old designs.
Thanks for the laugh, Jason!
