Sir,

I wish to take issue with the caption of two images in Russell Clark's otherwise
excellent presentation, "Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends".

On page 23 (of 27), a compound image is captioned "Thomas by unknown
modeler[sic] (UK)".  The model clearly shows an OF class 0-4-0 saddle tank
engine in the livery of the Caledonian railway, and not an 0-6-0 (side) tank
engine in the style of the Rev. W. Awdrey's aforementioned original creation.

I am sure the modeller (whoever he may be) is clearly aware that 'Thomas' has
six wheels, not four, and would be highly offended, possibly liable to fits of
mental dissociation and extreme acts of violence to hear his %$~!@*# Caledonian
0-4-0 referred to as %$~!@*# 'Thomas' by one more %$~!@*# parent at a %$~!@*#
$%*@#~! train show for %$~!'s sake, don't they know %$~!@*# anything?

Did Reynolds put you up to this?  I'll have that $%*@#~!, I tell you.  Just you
wait and see that I %$~!@*# don't.

Yours faithfully,

Jason J. Railton, B.Eng

When I created this presentation, I emailed Huw Millington about the creator of
the engine, since the image was on his site. He said it was so long ago that he
couldn't remember who built it, but that he "thought" it was Thomas. He
suggested I post to loc.uk asking about it. I did:

http://news.lugnet.com/loc/uk/?n=8844

I received no valid answer, so I went with the info I had.

If you are offended by this, I will remove both the image and the caption from
this presentation and resubmit it to the ILTCO.

PS If you look at all the versions of Thomas in the presentation, you will see
that most have four wheels.

(...) So, Millington is in on the conspiracy too? It's become something of a twisted joke amongst the NBLTC to continually refer to this engine as 'Thomas', despite me making four more accurate rebuilds of it since that picture was taken. I'm not (...) (21 years ago, 1-Jul-03, to lugnet.trains)
