Actually, the extra set of small train wheels is just to balance out the
look. Personally, I think it looks fine either way. If we could have used
just one drive wheel instead of needing them on each side, we would have
ended up with a 5 wheel model (which would have been ideal). But since we
didn't get enough friction from just one drive wheel, we ended up with a 6
wheel model...that seems to offend some people's sense of balance, hence the
extra set of wheels.
