Way cool! (Pretty humorous too)

I'm really impressed with the size. You were a little disappointed with the
overall size, but for what it does, it's a very clever MOCs. It's also the first
one that I've seen that works on a layout using mechanical means without using a
motor, and that's neat!

Thanks Joe. Actually, I'm very happy with the size...the first prototype was
15 studs long! The handcar litterally got better each time Shaun and I went
"back and forth" with the design. Looking back, it seems that Shaun's
priority, from a design perspective, was size whereas I was more concerned
with getting the figs to look like they were pumping. The end result
encompassed both.

(hm, running out of superlatives)

Wonder what else can be done in this manner....

The sky is the limit...in fact, if you can afford to make something bigger,
you'll have the advantage of just using one "drive wheel" instead of two
like we had two (using a larger wheel gives you more traction and doesn't
seem to skip or grab). Placing the drive wheel on the inside (from a display
perspective) will conceal it well. The most important thing, which you will
find out in short order, is how much friction there is within your
mechanism. Whatever you design with this appraoch should be simple and well
balanced from a engineering standpoint or your drive wheel(s) will simply
drag along on top of the track. The arm, which looks so simple now, took
quite a bit of effort to ultimately arrive at so that it did not cause the
handcar to bind along the way.

Great car!

Joe Meno

Thanks! We had a blast creating it!
