Sorry, no pics yet, but I'm nearly finished with my first 2 cars.  I'm posting
in hopes of picking the brains of some large scalers out there (James Powell--
hint hint;-)...

But first:

After many calculations (big thanks to DaveE and his awesome scale converter
tool: http://www.suave.net/~dave/cgi/scale.cgi), I have landed upon the scale
of 1:24, which happens to be Gauge 3 (2.5").  In a coincidence of
earth-shattering proportions <sorry>, 2.5" just happens to equal.... 8 studs!
So, my 2 pet scales are 8 wide and 8 wide!{:^D

This scale, BTW, is technic fig scale (assuming a technic fig is 6'4").
Although I like technic figs, I really rather detest their yellow flesh,
especially compared to the skin tones of the Belville figs (whose bodies I find
too "doll-ish"), so... I pulled a "Sid" and removed my Technic figs' heads and
lower arms and replaced them with Belville ones, creating a *new* theme I am
going to call "Techville":-)

Anyway, here is where I need some help.  It is a given that the track and
trucks will be non-LEGO (gauge 3 to be precise).  So, I need to learn about
gauge 3 and where I can obtain such things as rail (I'm figuring that I'm
laying my own here), trucks (please tell me I don't need to machine my own!).

My web searches have turned up some good gauge 3 resources in England, but
since I am modeling US prototypes, I fear they will not be so helpful.  I am
pursuing a few other avenues for information, but wanted to throw this out in
this forum in hopes some illumination here.

TIA,

JOHN

(...) Does this help... (URL) actually live within a couple miles of their headquarters and store in Malden MA. Super great stuff! If I were not so dedicated to LEGO trains I would be in their store on at least a weekly basis. Eric K. (22 years ago, 20-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)
