How many motorized engines can be hooked together to maximize power, but not
over-burden the controller?

2 is the max with the default powersupply.

Can you hook up more than 1 controller to a track for added power without
harming the engines?

Won't harm the engines, but possibly damages the controllers. Not
recommended. Better is to replace the wall outlet power supply by a
heavier one, the controller can handle a larger amount of current. That
way up to 4 train engines can be powered.

Using these various methods (if you can) approximately how many cars can you
pull assumimg they are of varied size (some short, some long)?

20 34-long if the track is flat enough and not too curvy I'd say. Watch
out for the new train wheels as they have much more friction.

Also I now have a freight yard that take up  approx. 160 square feet.  When
I get it hooked up to the town, should the "mainline" be run with a
different controller then the yard?  Or does this create certain problems?

Sounds like a plan... you might want to isolate a section which can be
powered by either controller, so you won't short anything while passing
the isolation. Isolations are made by putting some cellotape at the side
connections of the rail ends.

Do we have the answers to these in the FAQs? This question comes up alot... (...) Hmm, I haven't done pull tests, but we've successefully run at least 4 motors on a single controller without overheating. (...) I'm not sure using a larger wall wart (...) (22 years ago, 14-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)
