I submitted my opinion to your poll but also thought I would comment on it
here as well.

Two weeks ago I probably would have said the Santa Fe kit would be your best
choice.  Today, I would go with the Metroliner.  Why?  Because we (Cary
Clark and I) had a lot of problems getting a long Santa Fe train to run last
weekend (see Cary's post for more details -
http://news.lugnet.com/trains/?n=17905).

While the models in the Santa Fe series are superb, there are some issues
actually running them, particularly if you are going to do so on a small
loop.  The Metroliner doesn't suffer from any of these issues and it is a
great set.

Yep.

While WE probably all can (and will) fix the problems with the ATSF rolling
stock, it may not be the best set for a newbie, who won't know what to do
(or have the big collection of parts to do it with) and thus might get
frustrated.

That's why I voted for the Metroliner too.

Thanks for putting up all the polls, Aaron.
