I've actually built the locomotive in metroliner colours (excluding the
1x2x2 windows, which are too expensive individually on bricklink - I've
tried several alternative ideas, but non have looked good enough as yet).

Hi Andy!

I saw your engine yesterday, when the folder was open for the public for a
while. I liked the 9V 3-axle wheel arrangement under your loco. Looks superior
to the 4wheel motor+sidings solution I saw in some other 7740 upgrades.

For the windows I would suggest ladders or maybe even better grill tiles in
SNOT. The real 103 engines have had no windows but kind of grills too.

The red colour design of the old engine is really annoying most German train
fans because of the white part in the front. Often this is called as
'Lätzchen' ('bib' is the translation my dictionary suggested for that).

At least for one of the last 103 engines the Deutsche Bahn agreed with the
wishes of the fans to repaint it in complete red... In my eyes that looks much
better (sort of 7725 like).

Kind Regards,

Ben

P.s.: Before I was able to buy my childhood dreams 7740, I made a 7740-like
engine myself (back in 1998). But because of missing 3x3 corner sloped bricks
in yellow, I had to use black (some real engines have had dark roofs) ones and
instead of the 2x2 grey windows I used ladders.

But I am sorry: the only picture I have from that engine is very fuzzy...
