While prowling for new MOC ideas, I ventured to the Japanese Shinkansen
photo sites. There look to be several good sleek design challenges here:

I first saw Shinkansen work from Masayuki Ogura a few years ago with is JR0
series set. Excellent work.
I think Larry P. even stepped outside is US Proto pants and built a
Shinkansen set! ;-) (or is my memory incorrect...?)
A visit to the EJLTC site is well worth a tour of their MOC gallery. Nice work!

In the spirit, I have started to try to model the E4 series Shinkansen.
I've worked up a front end for the locomotive, but I'm struggling with the
means to build it double-deck and keep the aspect ratio-- it becomes too
tall and narrow. Yeah, 8-wides, I hear ya. But, for the moment I will stay
6-wide.
Here's a photo gallery of the real-life E4 series set:

and
my initial work to model the way-funked-out cab and nose:

| (...) Indeed I did. (URL) the thread starting at (URL) the skinny. It was done with help from Nik, because he had to do a school project on Japan in second grade, and he chose Shinkasen as his topic, knowing that he could count on me to help him (...) (22 years ago, 2-Jun-02, to lugnet.trains)
