A few questions...
The big red spoked wheels you sometimes see in trainmodels, are they • from
set 396 http://guide.lugnet.com/set/396 ?
Is it possible to use these wheels on 9V ?
Which other sets contain those wheels?

Set 390, an old Cadillac, comes with five large red spoked wheels.  I • assume
they are the same but am not sure because I've never seen spoked wheels • close
up on a train set before.

The spoked wheels in 396 are indeed the same as those in 390.  They also
appeared in white in 391 (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/391_1).  I am lucky
enough to have eight of them, all originated from the 194 Family set
(http://guide.lugnet.com/set/194) which had four of them in red.

About a year ago a thread popped up in lugnet.trains regarding metal rims
that someone in Germany had fabricated that snapped over these wheels. • See
this:  http://news.lugnet.com/trains/?n=11170

I purchased eight of these rims and they work great - they snap right on • as
advertised.

Here is a picture of a train I built when I first received them but never
finished:

I say it isn't finished because the front end is too light and it derails
pretty easily.  I used it as a static display during our last show a few
weeks ago.

There were also some larger (but not as large as the big spoked wheels)
wheels during the 12v era.

Hope this helps.

not to forget set 395 from 1976 with white wheels and 329 from 1968 with red
wheels. If  you never had the chance to study the wheels in detail it might
be useful to know that they weren't actually designed for rails. They are
the spoked versions of the old large wheels with 12 studs and normally had
tyres. As for some of the mocs - some people use axle/wheel systems from
other products like Reinhard Beneke's  playmobile solutions. I don't know
how well that works though.

One of the sets numb4ered 252 also had 4 of these wheels. I think I've got about 40 by now. Paul Sinasohn LUGNET #115 (22 years ago, 29-Apr-02, to lugnet.trains)
