Hi Larry,

no, it's mot "photoshoped". I really would wish to be able to do such things
with Photoshop. But the newspaper is **real**. Even if the german influence in
Namibia - former South West Africa - lasted just 30 years and it's a long time
ago, you sometimes feel like in Germany:

Bakeries sell the whole wide range of breads, in the supermarkets you might
find **all** products you find in Germany and there is a small but lifeful
german community living in Namibia. I have no exact nummers and I can't tell
you how many Germans life amoung the 1.4 Million Namibians. At least they have
their own newspaper :-)

A nice scatch compares the sizes of Europe an Namibia:

But the main and official language is English. Afrikaans and German are taught
at some schools and cars drive like in the UK on the **other hand side**. The
Namibian Dollar (N$) ist fixed with the South African Rand and it's very cheap
for visitors at the moment: 10 N$ ~ 1 Euro

Back to the train related topics: I have just upploaded an english article from
the TransNamib inhouse News Bulletin:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=132205

At the last day in Windhoek I was able to get a special tour around the
TransNamib Workshops. The train company runs over 50 old "Desert
Express"-style engines. These diesel-electric engines were produced by General
Electric in the US in the 50's or 60's (??) and it was just cool to see what
happens inside such an engine. The track system in Namibia is narrow gauge:
1060 mm

And as in other countries around the world, the train company is suffering from
"on-road-transportation" by trucks ...

Saying this, the Desert Express as a Hotel Train and attraction for tourists is
one of few highlights within Namibian rail-transportation.

Larry, thanks for posting and if you guys have further questions, ask me for
answers :-)

Regards,
HoMa

This shot: (URL) Photoshopped?(1) Knowing the riff raff that HoMa hangs out with (2) I have my doubts. But I'm not 100% certain it's a spoof. It COULD make the front page of the paper, who knows (although I had no idea Namibia had a German paper... (...) (22 years ago, 5-Mar-02, to lugnet.trains)
