Steve,
Glad that you like it. It started with those soccer field white
"windshields". I stacked a couple up and thought, "wow - this could make a
cool train front." The nose needs some work - compound curves with LEGO
bricks take a lot of work. This version does have a working headlight and
flashing warning lights in the nose.
It is no particular proto-type - just a high speed train. Many of the
details where inspired by (borrowed/stolen from) James Mathis' incredible
passenger trains (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=1636).
I am working on the rest of the train set and will post more pictures when
it is done.

| (...) Working lights! Awesome. I love it when one can incorporate the lights into trains :-) "Compound curves": Oh, yeah, but it's worth it when you feel like you've got it right. Simply inspired is your take from the Soccer sets with the 2x6x2 (...) (23 years ago, 19-Oct-01, to lugnet.trains)
