The Greater Florida Lego Train Club appeared at the GATS 2001
in Orlando Aug 11 and 12. Due to time constraints on most
club members, this was a "one-man" show (Robin) with a little
assist from me (KK). So heaps of credit to be given to Robin
for even attempting this one.
A few first for GFLTC:
- the first ever full open table top display
- a K-8 play area for kids on one side.

I have always thought the Tampa GATS show at the State Fair
Grounds was OK in attendance and that the remote building
location was a factor.
The Orlando GATS was at the Orlando Fair grounds which was
in an even more remote building and it had 2-3 times the
crowds of the Tampa GATS. Guess Orlando itself is the draw.
And tourists do come to train shows (heard some foreign
accents, languages).
Some highlights on pics.
Angle3.jpg - Under the yellow building is the RCX brick which Robin
set up to control railway crossing gates with light bricks.

Crowd2.jpg - Kids at the new K-8 play area. Parents were very
appreciative and I can guess the from opening to a hour before
closing it was pretty much elbow to elbow kids.

Though this is not our best layout, it still was quite an effort
from Robin to put this together.
Table13.jpg - My first contribution to trains/town with a modified
4556 set. Namely Japanized the roof and added corner pagodas.
This was to represent the Himeji City train station which in
reality is across the street from Himeji Castle.
Table14.jpg - Himeji Castle with the newly renovated tatami floor
for the bottom floor. Also, phase II of Himeji was completed
with a small tenshu and yagura (connecting turret).

All in all a good show. I know the crowds enjoyed it. Funny thing
after lunch some enterprising person had setup 4 chairs facing one of the
sides and created a "bleacher" section.
