Some 9V questions of a 12V user

Hello everybody,

I have been reading this newsgroup for quite some time, and have some
questions of my own now.

I use the 12V train system, which I think is still the best of all, but I do
like the 9V Metroliner that is coming out. Because of this, I have decided I
will start using the 9V system as well, independent of the 12V tracks.

My questions are however: in the 12V system, it is possible to make the
trains stop using signals. Power is always on the tracks, (independent of
the switches), only when the signal is Red, the power goes and the train
stops. This allows me to drive 3, 4 or even 5 trains on one piece of track,
using the signals to prevent the trains having a collision. Does the 9V
system have anything like this? Is it possible to drive two trains on one
track, or do you need two separate tracks? Or do you use switches?

Another question, the 12V transformer has three power supplies, one for
0-12V (train), one 12V~ (not used) and one 12V=. The last one can be used
for remote controls, and illumination. Does the 9V transformer also have an
extra 9V= power supply in case I want to illuminate some buildings? Is this
possible at all with 9V? I also liked it if I could build in lights in all
the houses and buildings, as well as in the trains.

Thank you in advance,

FG

Yes, you can use the 12V signals (7860) on 9V tracks, but you have to make some modifications yourself. See more on Frank Buitings site: (URL) Geronimo <fgw@dds.nl> wrote in message news:GHLGzs.Bt2@lugnet.com... (...) do (...) I (...) track, (...) (...) (23 years ago, 5-Aug-01, to lugnet.trains)

Thank you all for your responds. It has been quite useful to me. I may even consider to transform one of my 12V signals into a 9V one. Is Lego still not considering to release at least electric switches and signals for the 9V system? Why not? Does (...) (23 years ago, 7-Aug-01, to lugnet.trains)
