With some excellent comments from Carbon60 and Rob Latham, I have continued
with my APT set.

C-60 happened to be working on the APT; neither of us knew the other was
working on it!  He's got his great efforts accepted to the APT-P restoration
website:

I think C-60's got the coloring down very well.  In fact, I now know that my
chosen gray roof is the wrong color!  :-(  It should be white.  Oh, well.
We both would like to have dark gray train windows.

Rob Latham is responsible for drawing the excellent images of the various
APT configurations shown here:

These are just excellent!!!

Here's my v5 APT set:

I've doubled the powercar.  As C-60 pointed out the catenary is one-way
only, so there's two in opposite directions.  Also, the text should be
"InterCityAPT".  Interesting to note that the power car graphics are not
symmetric!  One side of the same powercar states "InterCityAPT" while the
other side is the British Rail dual-arrow-track symbol.

Rob told me:
"the positioning of the passenger doors (they do not have a door in each
"corner, just diagonally opposite ones) - not something
"that you would have noticed on photo's as the livery continues over the door.
"   on the Trailer Brake First vehicles (next to the powercar) there should be
no windows at the innermost end."

I haven't followed the diagonal door prescription, as it would require
tossing out all of one kind of train door...say toss out all the
"right-hand" doors!  I think I'll go with using the pairs and just have two
doors per wagon at the same end of the wagon.  This way I won't have to buy
double the qty of doors bulk paks.

later,
James Mathis
PS:  C-60; I hope you don't mind that I plugged your spot on the APT resto page.

(...) Hey James, Of course looks good,, blah blah blah, yada yada yada[1], but since this came up in another thread and I can see them in your picture....where did you get your train tracks? Did you modify the color of the rails? Did they come (...) (23 years ago, 13-Jun-01, to lugnet.trains)
