I recently nabbed a bunch of the translucent (and pearlescent) Lego Pen
Beads from BrickLink and at Tom Stangl's suggestion are using them to snazz
up the lamps that I have scattered about the gardens of Brickenbloom* and
Brickmond (RichLUG's train/town display).
Using the Lamp Post element (http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/2039) as the
base I've come up with three different designs for my outdoor lamps:

For the pink lamps that are set up in the Brickenbloom gardens I use the
style with the 4x4 radar dish cover since I have enough pink dishes. For
the white lamps that I will set up in Brickmond I'm going to use the style
with the 2x2 radar dish topper. I only have 1 white 4x4 radar dish
currently in my collection (and about 6 white posts).
Anyway, I appreciate Tom bringing this idea to our attention (and having the
pen beads available in his shop). I think it really does make the lamps
look a lot more authentic than when I was using the 2x2 round
trans-white/clear bricks as the "bulbs".
I hope others are similarly inspired by these pictures (which aren't the
greatest I know but I just threw them out there so folks would get the basic
idea).
Keep on building!
Greg

| Nice. I like lamp2 the best, personally. Second model in a couple of days using pen beads (this and the pumpkin patch). Are pen beads the next big thing? I actually have the alphabet pen and was thinking of using those beads as columns in a (...) (22 years ago, 18-Sep-02, to lugnet.build)
