Can anyone provide me with some pointers on building good roofs? I live in
southern California, which is the primary inspiration for my buildings. Most
of them have flat roofs, which is fairly easy, but I have a hard time with
sloped roofs. Sloped bricks don't seem to do the job right ... they're
"heavier" than the roofs are out here. I have tried using the technique from
the Wild West sets that used plates on hinges. That turns out OK, but leaves
unsightly gaps if I don't hinge the entire plate.

Are there any other solutions? This is the hardest part of building for me,
so far.

It's very part-expensive, but you can use layered plates.  It's what the
model makers at LEGOLAND do, and I've used it on houses and things for
NALUG's train layouts.  Here's some sample pictures:

There's some other examples in those folders, too.

(...) Mmm. Looks nice. Wish my collection were that large ... I'm still a casual collector. Thanks for the help. I'll try it out. (: (22 years ago, 26-Aug-02, to lugnet.town)

That's a good idea, I'll have to try that. I should have enough 2x plates for that. Thanks James. James Brown <galliard@shades-of-night.com> wrote in message news:H1Gy5p.6KB@lugnet.com... (...) in (...) Most (...) with (...) from (...) leaves (...) (...) (22 years ago, 27-Aug-02, to lugnet.town)
