You can find a good deal of information on planning a Lego town on my Town Planning website at http://www.lionsgatemodels.com/COntent/Townplan/townplan.htm I'll be adding more information to it very soon. Also take a look at the links on the Town group home page at http://news.lugnet.com/town/ - looking at other people's towns is a good way of working out what you like, so you might find the Town Layout categories in the two Town Building contests interesting, and you can follow the directory links to see lists of other people's towns.
