It definitely has sections which would look like a canal (because in fact, they are canals in the sense of being man made), but don't have any locks that I know of. (...) Instead of developing a lock plate with a fixed width, why not create a 'bluff' plate--the equivalent of one of the proposed lock plates, but cut in half lengthwise.
