movie

Yeah, very true. The entire Vahki/Metru Nui saga is taking a Soviet turn (as is the US, IMO). The press release for the Vahki has a new tagline: “Surrender or Run”. The fonts and artwork style used on the ad collateral is very reminiscent of Soviet propoganda of the middle of the last century.

Note the blocky font, backwards R, big star, and the central portion of the Vahki logo is a lot like a sickle - combined with the star, the image hearkens back to the CCCP flag.

The promo movies for the Vahki enhance this theme, with pithy sayings like “A busy Matoran is a happy Matoran,” “Turaga Dume Sees All,” and “Thoughts Can Be Dangerous” - the last as a Vahki kicks down a Matoran’s door.

Not terribly subtle in setting up a totalitarian existence.

On to political diatribe

It’s not hard to see where the Bush administration is equivalent to the enigmatic Turaga Dume and his enforcers. Misplaced zeal is rampant - for example, in my local area, a woman who emigrated to the US more than a decade ago was arrested by the INS, incarcerated for a week, and threatened with permanent deportation... solely because of a decade-old marijuana possession conviction. Her American husband had to go to the governor to get it overturned, I believe.

It’s a good thing we’re keeping those troublesome 40-something ex-hippy Scandinavians in their place. We’d be in trouble otherwise.

Yes, there’s all too much of a correlation between the city of Metru Nui and the current US... fear (as much of our own people as of “those others”), powerful enforcement agents who consider themselves above the law, a ruler who manipulates people and events for his own shadowy purpose.

Turaga Bush Sees All. Questions Are Dangerous (and Unpatriotic). Vahki Ashcroft is Coming. Surrender or Run.
