So far I prefer simple variants that improve the models (IMNSHO) but you'd
have to be a severe Bionicle freak to tell that they had been modified.

For example... Turn Onua's legs backwards so that the knee would bend the
other way. Take the various gun arms (Kopaka's shield, Lewa  & Pohatu's
guns, etc.) and connect them so the short end of the arm is hooked to the
shoulder. Gives a wider range of motion for the gun itself. Take Tahu's gun
arm and connect it up-side down for the same reason.

I connect all the hip joints (with the exception of Pohatu) perpendicular to
the body rather than parallel, this lets the ball joint move up and down
instead of right to left. Ditto for all the shoulder joints.

I had posted long ago how the names could come about based loosly on the village naming convention, but after the game comic books have (...) (23 years ago, 6-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic.bionicle)
