I went on Friday to a little out of the way store that I haven't been to • in
about 12 years, and found my first 8858 Rebel Wrecker.  It was listed at
$65, but the store was having a 20% off sale on LEGO Technics, so I was • very
happy, not to mention lucky, as I just decided out of the blue to go there
after work.  I built the model, and I was rather impressed... I expect • that
this one will stay built for a while before being cannibalized for robot
parts.

I think that this is an excellent set.  It was my first "modern" Technics
set (bought it in '95 after not having bought Lego for about 10 years).  I
really enjoyed the front suspension design and it had some useful big
wheels.

I also enjoyed the rebel wrecker very much, and I probably kept it together
for about a year before, ahem, wrecking it for the red beams. I did, in fact,
save the chasis of this monster truck for fun though. One day, as I was in one
of my "creative Lego moods," I brought down my 5550's alternate Jeep model and
placed it next to the wrecker's chasis. After looking at the two for some time
and a little tinkering, I found out that without much work, you can put the
5550's alternate Jeep body on the wrecker's chasis! I also made it turn using
the wheel on top of the jeep. To see some pictures of the model, go here:
