Yep, I agree.  I actually don't but technic anymore just for the reason that
these beam pieces are not LEGO enough.  The main pieces they use are the
L-shaped studless beam mentioned above.  They also use way too many rods and
those giant molded plastic pieces with the sheared off shaped.

These pieces may have creativity, but IMHO they are not LEGO.  I can build
interesting things with a range of competing products (Contrux, Erector sets,
etc.), but one of these are compatible with LEGO. A lot of the new technic
pieces are BARELY so.

If you are old school like me, buy a bunch of the 2x1 bricks with the one hoel
pin.  Buy a matching number of black or grey pins.  This way, you can connect
your models and have the freedom of technic, and still maintain the style of
LEGO.  To connect the 1x2 bricks, use a combination of plates and bricks.  I
use this for all of my technic/robotic creations, and have the "weird" technic
"parts" in a shoebox I never use.

These new stud-less angled beams and misc. plastic
bits are too specialized, IMO.  I know that they make possible all sorts of
different shapes, but...it hardly seems like Lego sometimes.

I admit that I am not an accomplished Technic builder by any means; I suppose
that it is just a matter of preference on my part.  I do think that the range • of
new connecting pieces is very useful and quite overdue.  I just don't care • much
for the body panels (e.g. Super Street Sensation) and so forth.  They make a
sleek model, but seem to take away the challenges of sculpting with plates
slopes, etc.  The mechanics of the new sets are infinitely more complex and
challenging, but the presentation seems to have lost something.  Just slap on • a
body panel.
