Tractor pulling may be mostly a North American sport, although I have seen
some German sites as well... for a view of what it's all about without needing
the earplugs (Trust me, they rank up with Top Fuel dragsters for noise level)
check out http://www.ntpapull.com, the official home of the National Tractor
Pulling Association...
In a nutshell the box on the "Pulling Sled" transfers weight from the sled
wheels to the tractor via the hitch point... as the weight goes up the
incline, the tractor is required to pull harder as it "weighs" more. These
runs are made in a 300 foot (sorry my metric isn't so hot) track and 'if' a
tractor can cross the end line it is called a "FULL PULL". If no tractor can
complete a full pull then the tractor that pulls the farthest wins... if more
than one makes a full pull then additional weight is added to the transfer box
and those tractors go again, until the tractor that can pull the farthest wins
the class.
PULL ON! An avid pulling fan in Ohio, home of the National pulloffs!
