Aha many thanks! That also explains what the black and white striped discs are
for! I'll have to keep an eye out for the 'control panel' thing on ebay!

All Mindstorms parts use either the 2x2x2/3 electric (...) (15 years ago, 19-Jan-10, to lugnet.technic)
