The 12-tooth bevel gears are not very strong to begin with. If your gears are
snapping then maybe you could try using the 12-tooth double bevel gears.

You can build a fairly strong housing for these gears by using 4 of this part
http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32056 to connect 3 of this part
http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32034 via 6 2-long axles.
Alternatively you can decrease the stress upon these gears whilst still
transmitting the same amount of power by having you're gearing down after your
bevel gears.
