Thanks Eric and Doug!
The shock is to hold the track taught at just the right perimeter. It also
allows the track to turn smoothly. The dozer can twist in place (one track in
reverse-one forward) on smooth surfaces, but cant do so on carpet since the
deep treads dig in between the carpet fibers. It can however steer on carpet by
rotating only one track. This puts all the driving force on that track and the
shock on that side actually compresses due to the torque. The opposite track
can turn in neutral.
Yes Doug- real lights would be even better. I dont know if I have any of the
old light and sound bricks from the 1980s left, but adding lights would be a
possibility with those pieces.
Thanks to both of you for the compliments.

| Good construction, solid looking model. Cool light stalk over the front end plow. I like that shock dampend rear cog. What's that work like? ...and this is a nice pic too! Shows some interesting aspects to your bulldozer: (URL) (18 years ago, 26-Feb-07, to lugnet.technic, FTX)
