Hello!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted so I wanted to stop in and show everyone what I’ve been working on. Lego purists, beware - I use custom electronics. Check out my two current projects:

Marion 6360 ‘The Captain’ Stripping Shovel:

Video of the Captain Swinging (Spinning)

The Captain is still unfinished but has been coming along. It stands 53 inches tall - my biggest MOC to date. I’m not sure how much it weighs but I would guess it is in the 60-80lb range. All digging and locomotion systems will work when it is complete. It is built to approximate minifig scale.

The Bucket Wheel Excavator:

This one is more complete than the Captain. The only thing it needs is a cleaned up wiring job and a controller. It can dig from a tub of 1x1 and 1x2 bricks with the cutting wheel, the bricks are moved along a conveyor system thru the machine, then they spit out the back from the exhaust boom. Forgive me for not having videos of this yet - I’ll post some soon.

I used technic chain links to make the conveyors for the bucket wheel. At first I tried the tread links but they did not work at all - they would get jammed up with bricks and break after less than a minute of continued operation. So I opted for the chain links, 4 chains wide per conveyor and they work like a dream, no jams.

Also - I’ve recently posted some video of some older (and long disassembled) MOC’s:

Video - Shovel Crawling

Let me know what you think!

Enjoy,

Ben

(...) Nice job on the bucket wheel excavator. One question though, how did you get so MANY yellow excavator buckets? :) (18 years ago, 27-Jun-06, to lugnet.technic)
