Allow me to pull you guys off the excitement around the 2006 Technic sets to
ask a question...
Does anyone know of a working linkage or geometry for slide-glide doors
usually found on low floor transit buses, with door panels being 5 studs wide
when built?
Yes, that would be for my Orion VII scale model.
Thanks

I think what you need are two external arms, half the width of the door, top and
bottom. Connect them from the door frame to a point half way along the door.
This gives you four hinges.
You then want to construct a mechanism that attaches to the bottom right hand
corner of the right door. This mechanism should pull the corner of the door in a
straight line toward the centerline of the bus. The door will then follow an arc
defined by the hinged arm.
Looking down from above the mechanism will form a shallow y shape which will
steadily flatten out until the door is flush with the sides, exactly 90 degrees
away from its start position.
