Well, yes, in a way. When opened, they'll slow down the side their
on, and the ship will turn in that direction. As for looking better
backwards, I don't doubt it looks better, but it dosn't follow the
version from the movie very well anymore. :) More or less custom at
that point. ;) Also, the reason for the less-aerodynamic look at the
front is that space between the cone-ish thing and the SW engine is
part of the intake for the engine (I belive, they all seemed to have
intakes for air to burn fuel).

| Thanks for all of the info! I figured they were for steering, but I wasn't sure. Seeing how this is my only movie podracer and it will probably be up against Blacktron and Aquanaut pods whenever I get around to building them, staying authentic isn't (...) (24 years ago, 24-Sep-00, to lugnet.starwars)
