I think the Enfield model sucks...yes, yes, it has the prominent features of
the Imperial Shuttle, but it looks over-the-hill and bloated.  A Nerf Shuttle!
Way out of proportion and completely lacking in the sleek grace of the model
from the movie.  Now, of course, everyone is asking me how I would go about
making a sleeker shuttle.  Well, until I find a quick and cost-effective means
of putting my version on this site, I will have to describe, in brief detail,
how I succeeded.  First of all when dealing with such a ship, especially the
front fuselage part, less is more.  Instead of using bricks to shape the sloped
front end, I used plates and canted them to just the right angles using click
hinges internally - resulting in a uniform facet for every side.  Similar to a
cut stone as opposed to a slab of cheese.  Second, the wings....For the top,
large wing I used 1x2x1 hinges (the flat ones).  This enabled me to create the
angles and proportions PERFECTLY.  I constructed the top wing so that one side
is Lego bumps, i.e. put it up on its side.  The only drawback is filling in the
odd spaces resulting from the unorthodox angles that were created, but I filled
them.  However, my Imperial Shuttle is quite large and would not even come
close to fitting into a $29.99 price tier.  So, you got me, I guess.  When
Lego's version comes out, I almost hope they use a big POOP for the front...as
it is a very difficult shape to render with brick, and I would very much like
to see the truest shape possible.  Otherwise, I'll just buy it for parts

I must admit, however, that the wings on the Enfield model are very clean, and seamless. And it looks like there's a retracting landing gear that actually supports the model. Mine works but collapses under the weight. Gee, maybe mine isn't so good. (...) (24 years ago, 30-Aug-00, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) <snip> I'm in complete agreement with you here. The model is way too wide! It looks chubby or something. The landing gear look pretty cool, and while the wings look cool if they did use glue to get the hinges to stay at that angle then that's (...) (24 years ago, 30-Aug-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Check out this pic from Tim C's trip to the model shop at Enfield. (URL) know we'd never see something that cool in a set, but it sure does look neat. ~M (24 years ago, 30-Aug-00, to lugnet.starwars)
