Ok, can someone explain to me the new “id’s”?

On the Jedi Fighter, and also seen painted on the sides of the Clones’ Star Destroyers, is a round tan disk with Dark Red Split Circle Pattern. http://www.peeron.com/pics/inv/custpics/4150px33.1108881472.jpg
Republic Forces led (originally) by the Jedi

And on the Droid ships we see a triangle/hexagon pattern. http://www.peeron.com/pics/inv/custpics/51869.1108881503.jpg
Right-- based on the Geonosians, who built them and are a major part of the separtists, and who are a hive race ( most natrual hives are hexagonal )

We still have the Eight-Point Star Pattern on Republic ships http://www.peeron.com/pics/inv/custpics/4150px22.jpg

Yup...
which of course becomes the Imperial Six-Point Star Pattern by the time of SW IV. http://ldraw.org/library/official/images/71/3x/4150ps5.png
Correct afte rmuch destruction and the iron rule of the dakside.

Ok, so what does the split circle pattern represent? The Jedi Council? Seems to me that someone in the LucasArts design & the (HAH!) “continuity” departments made a goof - the split circle to me would seem more appropriate for the Seperatists while the triangles would seem more appropriate for the Clone (Republic) forces (they’re similar to the Imperial pattern, especially when grouped in a hexagon).
