It's EU.
This stands for "Expanded Universe"
Put simply, it's everything Star Wars that's not in any of the movies.
There are loads of comics and novels that take place in the SW universe, there
are also lots of games and even a few cartoon series.
Storylines of these take place before, during, in between or after the movies.
Example: 'Tales of the Jedi' (comicbook serie) is set (anyone correct me if I'm
wrong) 10,000 years before Episode IV - A New Hope.
'Shadows of the Empire' (novels and comicbook serie) takes place just after
Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, but before Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.
And 'Dark Empire' (comicbook serie) details events six years after Episode VI -
Return of the Jedi.
These are just three examples of soooo many more spinn-ofs, each of which has
it's own unique characters, vehicles and vessels.
Like the TIE-Drone. It appears, if memory serves, in 'Dark Empire' and therefore
comes from the Expanded Universe.
More questions? Ask the real SW experts, I'm more of a Trekkie myself. ;-)
Peace and long life,
Dirk
