Does any reader of this group have a simple history of Football(Soccer)?

I mean the actual game not the Lego range.

Thanks

Alex
I found this description in Paul Harvey's The Rest of the Story, by Paul
Aurdant.  I am not directly quoting it...
During the quarter century between A. D. 1016 and 1042, England was occupied
by the Danes, that is Denmark had successfully invaded and taken over
England.
Anyhow, Danes must have been pretty rough because the hatred for them
lingered a long time after they were driven out.
So, the Danes are gone and here is this anonymous Englishman, and he is
digging around in an old battlefield and he digs up a skull of a long dead
Danish soldier.  This Englishman was old enough to remember the Danish
occupation and looking at the skull kinda brought it all back to him... and
was he angry!  He threw that skull on the ground and he kicked it!  Boy, did
it feel good!  So, he kicked it again! And again, and again.
That's when some people walking by noticed him kicking the skull around the
pasture.  When he explained what he was doing and how good it made him feel,
they agreed that the Danes had been pretty rotten to the English.  So, they
joined him!  Of course shoe toes weren't all that sturdy back then.  When
the new game of Danish Skull Kicking finally caught on throughout the
countryside, there were a lot of sore feet.  That's when someone got the
idea of inflating a cow's bladder.
And that, according to the above mentioned book is how Soccer or Football or
Rugby, came to be.
Please note that I do not know if this is true, it is all I can find at the
moment.
