With the recent thread regarding the various custom minifigs (Specifically
the Cobra ones) found on brickbay, it seemed like as good a time as any to
begin putting these pictures up. I've had them for a while, waiting on
inclusion in my regular webpage but my primary computer is ailing so that's
on hold atm. In the meantime I've begun posting the pics to my Brickshelf
account. :)

The Scorpion is a nod to my childhood and the 3 & 3/4" GI JOE series Cobra
vehicle called the HISS Tank.

The idea came about when playing around with the treads from my Arctic sets
and realizing they would work perfectly for the triangular shaped treads of
a HISS tank. Between that and the realization the trans blue canopy would
also work well, I knew I had to build a couple.

I've chosen to deviate from the actual design in that the Hasbro version was
not capable of transporting troops internally (unless you took the gun
turret off). My version can carry 4 soldiers internally though they are in
quite cramped quarters.

The standard version mounts 30mm cannons with standard optical/thermal and
rader targeting system.

The alternate version is finished in dual role Arctic/Urban camoflauge and
mounts 3 multipurpose missles and two 25mm gyrojet cannons also with
optical/thermal and radar targeting systems. A heavy duty winch and infrared
navigational systems are mounted under the front of the driver's cockpit.

Both variants are key components of an integrated infantry delivery platform
that I've been working on for my space marines. :) I hope to get the other
half of the system posted later tonight.

Comments, cheers or jeers welcome. But uh.. no "G.I. Joel" jokes, please.
Got enough of those 15 years ago. =P

(...) Nice rendition of it! (Had to haul his out from the depths of the Closet Caves (...) Never thought of that! (...) I hated that. I mean, a HISS should be capable of holding 6 troops. (...) (...) Excellent work. The HISS was my first GI-Joe vehicle. :^) I love the implementation of the troop cabin and I also appreciate that you've made it so the cockpit hinges open. Ah, to have my Night Raven again. <wipes tear from eye> ~Grand Admiral (...) (24 years ago, 17-Mar-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) That's StarCrafters trademark canopy!!! SOMEONE ACTUALLY USED THE CANOPY! I thought I was the only person appreciative of it's use and functionality... Nice rendition of the HISS. Did the HISS have additional weaponry? It's been about 6 or 7 (...) (24 years ago, 17-Mar-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) Wow! I was thinking about building a HISS-inspired tank for BrikWars. I was even going to use the same piece as the front canopy! This is great work. eric (24 years ago, 19-Mar-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)
