I saw a posting elsewhere on Lugnet in which someone had used a metal polish
called "Brasso" to remove the lego applied graphics to a new Star Wars set
( escape pod). I have used brasso before and it is a very mild abrasive
polish and I tried it on the trans yellow pieces in my classic space
collection. This stuff removed all the tiny scratches and haze from 20+
years of play and I cannot believe how clear and sharp they are after some
polishing. I got the Brasso at a local "home depot" type store for about $3
and I used a soft dish towel to polish and a clean soft paper towel to buff
once I had finished polishing. A shot of glass cleaner also helped after
polishing. This really worked well! I highly recommend it.
