Ever diligent, never sleeping, those robot survey teams are out on a vast catalog of extrasolar worlds. A few of these robots have continued useful service for centuries. Due to the stray cranial micrometeoroid impact or a radiation singe from a relatively close gamma-ray burst, a few such ‘bots have gone wacko. Safety circuitry virtually ensures that such a condition results in the activation of a default “harmless but raving lunatic” mode, also known as “going clown.” After returning from a mission, children greet such special androids with glee. Clownbots often spend a second career in the local interplanetary circus where they babble, rave and stagger with glee, their bright and cheerful painted faces always smiling. They finally escaped! No more long, long missions drifting through the silent, cold dark of space, light-years from the nearest electro-juice bar.

-best,

Wolf
