I forget if the "asteroid-ship" concept has been explored before on a small
scale but any way this is my interpretation.
I realize that a more fluid shape could have been achieved using plates and a
solid frame, unfortunately I have very few small plates especially in gray.
My mode of construction has two advantages: 1 it is not as parts heavy as the
tile mode. 2 it allows for a controlled amount of studs showing on exposed
surfaces.
tile mode advantages: 1 Aforementioned. 2 more recognizable shapes are
achievable.
I built with the mind set that form follows function (being able to seat a fig
comfortably and being steroid like with as square inset windscreen.), this
should give some idea why it not hugely asteriodish. It was also partially
intentional since the craft is supposed to be man made and not a carved out
natural asteroid.
Backstory stuff and miscellaneous techno-babble:
A small long-range exploration deep-spacecraft meant for passive observation in
asteroid fields, planetary rings, moons, etc. Space frame is composed of
reinforced, die cast DuraRok, a common artificial building material used in its
none reinforced form to create basements, rocks and pools for gardens, walls,
fence posts, bird baths, etc. This creates a shell that is resistant to impact
from small asteroids, debris, and all but the most powerful energy weapons; its
architecture makes it crush resistant for the most part. It will however quickly
break after repeated hits from missiles and heavy slug throwers. It is powered
by liquid fooled rocket engine. The engine is unique in that its fuels only
react when electric current is passed through them. The craft carries enough
liquid fuels for approximately three planetary hops. However the batteries only
supply enough power for about 1 1/2 hops. This forces the craft to recharge its
batteries by orbiting the system’s sun and absorbing heat through its outer
shell.
Weapons none. Shields none.
