Yep.
Replace Paradisa windows with the new SPUD windows from Alpha Team
|
Has anyone here been able to successfully use the new alpha team cockpit pieces
in a moc yet? I recenly bought 4746 on sale
and seem to be having issues with these pieces.
Stylistically, these seem to be the worst cockpit/canopy pieces I have seen yet.
I really do not like the elongaged oval window in the rather rectangular/boxy
frame. I also have issue with the fact that there are no side windows. Without
the stickers applied, this presents a very slab sided profile that in my opinion
is just plain ugly. If only they would have molded some studs on the sides of
the cockpit frame. That way one could build out from the sides to break up the
profile a bit.
From a functional point of view, these pieces have very limited connection
points. Actually, in the assembled model, I am disappointed with the
flimsy-ness of the the entire cockpit base/frame assembly. This is due in part
to the limited number of studs holding the entire assembly together. The other
thing I noticed was that the plastic that these pieces were molded out of seemed
very soft and much more flexible than other pieces in my collection. I dont
know if this is bad or good, but I seemed to remember the older pieces in my
collection being harder (yet more brittle). This seemed to contribute to the
flimsy feeling of the assembled cockpit assembly.
This contrasted greatly with the actual transparent elongated oval window piece.
It seemed much harder plastic like the older pieces in my collection. This
piece connects to the cockpit frame via clicky-hinge. The stiff hinge and the
lack of a grabbing point on the window piece makes it very difficult to open
the canopy when closed.
Of the three pieces that make up this cockpit system, I found the window piece
to be the best piece of the lot. I immediatly could imagine this piece being
used as wings on an insect-like MOC or as tail-feathers on an engine assembly
or as armour/detail pieces on a mech (all provided that these pieces become
available in solid colors).
On a side note, I also noticed alot of bricks in this set seemed softer. The
dark blue technic beams seemed considerably more flexible than my older beams.
I got the feeling I could flex these pieces quite a bit before they would deform
or break (i broke plenty of technic beams in my childhood) I have no idea if
this is bad or good or if Im just being paranoid about lego quality lately.
The other thing working against these pieces is the overall color scheme of the
AT line. I just do not have enough sand-blue & dark-blue to do much with and
the AT sets really dont impress me enough to go out and buy the entire line
(let alone multiple copies) unless I can find them on deep clearance.
Anyways, just curious if anyone else has any thoughts or ideas on how to best
put these pieces to use?
