Good question! (I wish I had a definitive answer but all my Space sets are
disassembled so I have to go by the instructions too.) The inset in the
upper-right sure looks like plates, but the other steps make it look like
tiles. I guess it would be interesting to see what shows up on the
alternative models if anyone has a box handy (mine are all packed away --
boo hoo).
