I acutally have had this MOC built for quite awhile now. I finally got the red 4x4 cylinder pieces to finish it off though. I tried to incorporate a little bit of dark grey and black pieces to simulate a battle-worn weathered look.

Looks great! The shape is nice and sleek, and the colors and printed parts work well. I’d get rid of the dark gray and black grill tiles on the sides of the nose though..they’re a bit distracting.

Yeah, I think you’re right, but I was experimenting a bit. It actually looks OK from a distance. Maybe I’ll try some of the “new” grey when I get some and see how it looks. If/When I rebuild it to put in landing gear, I will probably change out some of the dark grey and black pieces. I was originally force to use some of those pieces due to the limitiations of my collection at the time. However, I have acquired more lt. grey tiles/grilles since then.

I had acutally been thinking about this model soon after when Bram L. posted his viper MOC. Guess it took me awhile to build and post this one, eh? There is really nothing all that special about its construction. It uses some now-standard schleim techniques. The most complicated part was the angled pannles between the upper and lower engines. Someday I will try to rebuild it to allow retractable landing gear.

Almost 5 years? That is a very long time. If you really did build this thhat long ago, then I’m even more impressed...as some of the techniques, like the tapered nose ahve only become popular more recently. As I recall, the angled panels were tough on mine, not so much to build, but to finally assemble them. Getting the hinged triangle to fit together without breaking of parts in the process was tricky, but once assembled, it was quite tough.

Have you been lurking for that long too?

yes, I have been lurking here for a long time. I built the original model probably about 3-4 years ago, but your model is what inspired my to do this one. The nose section has been relatively unchanged over time. The wings and engine sections have evolved to where they are now. Overall, I’m pretty happy with it but I would like to rebuild the wings again if a 2x6 wedge plate (for the trailing edge) ever becomes available (but that is unlikely, and even if it does... well, lets just say I’d have to work the color issue... not whining or trying to start another debate, just stating a fact).

I look forward to more new stuff!
Be sure to checkout my P-38 contest entry then.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.
