   Hi Folks-

So, I’m just wrapping up a small MOC project, and as I sit back to think about it, I note that while I’m generally pleased about how it turned out, I don’t think that it’s particularly innovative in its design. (I’ll post some pics when I get some time).

Hey Fred - many great mocs aren’t particularly innovative - like all of mine for instance ;) -- It has been my experience that we have a few builders who tend to produce less, but what they do produce is often more innovative, being that they put the pieces together in ways no one ever has. Then there are the rest of us, who, while not particularly innovative, still produce much that is cool.

But the problem with defining innovative techniques is that we usually don’t name our techniques. For example, one of the more innovative space mocs I’ve seen in a while is Keith Goldman’s Ghoul - which uses click hinges and plates to create a hexagonal shape - as opposed to the more traditional ‘Jassim-esque’ ship (being large plates with walls built on it) - but how would I term this technique? Especially since it isn’t the first time click hinges and plates have been used together, it is the first time it was applied to such a large spaceship design.

If you are interested in innovative techniques, I’d recommend checking out the Moc Highlight page and the Timeline.
